You may have heard that I’m currently writing
several books. One is a compilation
of true short stories from my life.
Some of these stories can be found in the Adventures section
of this website. These are mostly
one page stories about the crazy, stupid moments in my life when I
exhibited my remarkable ability to completely ignore common sense. Another endeavor is a book of
poetry. I love to write poetry,
although it comes so much easier when I’m in love, so I can assure you that
this book won’t be published until I’m married, which could be a
while. The main book I’m working on
is the first in a series called “Jack’s Adventures.” Here’s the lowdown:
Jack is a 9-year-old that lives in New
York City with his older brother Chris (23), his two sisters, Hayley (18),
and Sarah (13), and his mom and dad.
In each book, Jack has the opportunity to travel to a new
place. He writes about everything he
sees and all the experiences he has.
It is a chapter book written for about a 5th grade
reading level. The idea behind the
book is to get it into schools so that kids can learn that there is more
out there outside of their little bubble they call home. Hopefully it will inspire kids to travel and
make them a little less ignorant about other cultures and a little less
racist.
In this first book, Jack has to write a
report about London. Chris, a
well-connected photographer, pulls some strings and gets them a free flight
to London. They go Friday night,
land Saturday morning and spend a fast-paced, crazy weekend there. They leave late Sunday afternoon to get
back to NYC in time for Jack’s bedtime because he has school the next day. The book is written in real time, meaning
that Jack and Chris have to take the subway system or walk to different
places. If you want to take the
book, you can use it as a travel guide and follow their path. It’s amazing how much you can see in a
day and a half if you do it right.
In addition to Jack’s description of everything he sees, some of the
photographs that Chris takes along the way end up in the book as well, so
the reader can actually see what Jack and Chris see. These pictures can also be found here, on
PerfectLittlePlanet.com.
Both Jack and Chris are based on me, just
at different ages. And they’re a
little cooler than I am. All the
other characters in the book are based on real people I know and people I
have met in my travels. If you’d
like to be in the book, just let me know.
The first book is done, but feel free to
jump onboard for the second one, when Jack goes with his family on a
vacation to celebrate Hayley’s graduation.
